In a statement, Roads cabinet secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen explained How Kenya and Rwanda are to strengthen and enhance matters infrastructure.
This comes after he held a consultative meeting with Dr. Ernest Nsabimana Rwanda’s Minister of Infrastructure on the sideline of the Northern Corridor Council of Ministers meeting, in Kigali.
Kipchumba stated,”We both appreciated the long-standing close relationship between the two countries which has given rise to mutually beneficial partnerships and cooperation in many sectors including roads and transport.”
“Our discussions centered on strengthening and deepening collaborations in various sectors especially enhancing services at the Port of Mombasa and utilization of the Naivasha Inland Container Depot to better transportation of goods along the Corridor,” he added.
The ministers further explored sustainable social and economic modes of financing in the transport network as well as sharing of knowledge to promote safe environment for motorised and Non-motorised transport systems in Nairobi and Kigali.
Notably, The cabinet secretary witnessed the transformation that has been achieved through proper planning and construction plus public discipline in its use.
His statement comes a day after he assessed the damage caused on sections of the Nairobi Expressway during Wednesday’s Azimio La Umoja demonstrations.
Kipchumba stated,”As Government, we strongly condemn these acts of hooliganism, vandalism and lawlessness. We are exploring legal options that will ensure the perpetrators of these crimes and the organisers of yesterday’s Maandamano are held responsible through legal prosecution and footing the costs of repair.”
“The Government respects the letter and spirit of Article 37 of the Constitution which gives every person the right, peaceably and unarmed, to assemble, to demonstrate, to picket, and to present petitions to public authorities. However, we shall not allow merchants of violence to abuse these Rights and venture into a destruction spree and economic sabotage,” he added.
