President Ruto calls for a national Dialogue on protests.
Speaking in Homa Bay during the homecoming ceremony of Principal Secretary for Interior Raymond Omollo, The head of state, President Ruto calls for a national Dialogue on protests.
He expressed that the country is at risk of anarchy if the violent protests led by the opposition leader, Raila Odinga continue in the Country, as Raila had sworn.
Ruto stated,”We must have a conversation on what constitutes protest in this country. This must be a national dialogue so that we can define the boundaries of what can be termed as protest and what is pure anarchy.”
He called upon all Kenyans, including Opposition leader, Raila Odinga to join in on the dialogue, so that light can be shed on this issue of demonstrations.
He however, stated that all those who partook in the violent protests must take responsibility for any damaged that are incurred during the demonstrations because it is his duty, to protect the people of Kenya.
He issued a warning to anyone who deliberately stages violent protests against the government with a view of destabilising the State.
He stated,” I have a mandate that was given to me by the people of Kenya. Regardless of what the protesters think or do, I will have to exercise my mandate and ensure that lives are not lost and property is protected.”
Notably, During his tour in Homa bay, the head of state opened jitume digital skills laboratory.
He stated,”The facility which we have just opened will be used by young people in this region to help them acquire necessary skills and access the online job markets.”
