DP Gachagua arrives in Italy for the United Nations Food Systems Summit; In a communique, The second in command confirmed that he has arrived in Italy accompanied by his Spouse, Dorcas Rigathi.
He outlined that this summit is significant to Kenya because it will show the world, what Kenya has to offer in matters food systems.
He stated,”We arrived in Rome, Italy, this afternoon for the United Nations Food Systems Summit+2 Stocktaking Moment that starts tomorrow morning,”
“The high-level Summit provides Kenya with a timely opportunity to showcase what we are doing as a Government to enhance our food systems amid the vagaries of Climate Change and other emerging challenges,” he added.
The deputy president further stated that Kenya kwanza has underway plans that are aimed at achieving food security in the country.
He stated,”With the intervening programmes such as the fertilizer subsidy initiative and the comprehensive reforms we are rolling out in key agricultural sub-sectors; we are on track to achieve our target of ensuring the country’s food security,”
Kenya’s delegation in the summit includes
Cabinet Secretaries Mithika Linturi (Agriculture), Ezekiel Machogu (Education) and Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo.
The deputy president highlighted that the cabinet secretaries are ready and looks forward to participating in the key conversation on sustainable food systems and school meals programme among other crucial discussions.
