Kenya to celebrate Huduma Day October 10 2023.
Kenya to commemorate Huduma Day October 10 2023; October 10th of every year in Kenya, was formerly known as Moi day.
It was a day set aside to celebrate the reign of one man, The late Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi. However, When the country’s constitution continued to be amended, It was time to reconsider what Moi Day truly signified.
Background history, Moi was initially removed from Kenya’s list of holidays by the time the current Kenyan constitution was enacted in August 2010.
However, The day was not restored until a landmark judicial judgment by Kenya’s Supreme Court in 2017, where they ruled that instead of the day being scrapped off, it was renamed Huduma day.
Huduma is a Swahili word for ‘service,’ which indicates the holiday’s new spirit, and the holiday has been commemorated in Kenya since it was reintroduced in 2017.
Huduma day provides an opportunity for everyone to pause and consider how they may positively impact community growth.
