Cabinet gives a Go Ahead to Police Deployment in Haiti.
In a cabinet meeting that was chaired by his excellency president William Ruto, Cabinet gave a go ahead to police deployment in Haiti.
What remains now is approval for a motion to be tabled in Parliament for discussion and approval of the plans.
The statement read,”As part of the Multinational Security Support Mission pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution, the Cabinet ratified the deployment of the National Police Service to Haiti as sanctioned by the National Security Council.”
While appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindikion outlined plans to deploy police to Haiti.
He revealed that the first batch of police officers to be deployed to Haiti has kicked off a strenuous training in Kenya.
The group that is made up of 200 officers, was sent to Nandi Hills where they started the training on October 10. The team will later move to Magadi, Isiolo, Kitui and later in Embakasi before being sent to the mission.
An officer stated,”Depending on many factors including availability of needed resources, they will leave as soon as the end of this month.”
Over 1,000 officers will be picked from the Rapid Deployment Unit, Anti Stock Theft Unit, General Service Unit, and Border Patrol Unit to form a larger team for deployment.
However, The Cabinet’s decision comes days after the court issued conservatory orders on the deployment.
The ruling read,”A conservatory order is hereby issued restraining the respondents from deploying police officers to Haiti or any other country until 24th October 2023.”
