Mayhem in Turkana as Leaders deny Raila a chance to speak.
Chaos was witnessed on Friday at the annual Tobong’u Lore Festival in Turkana on Friday, after Azimio-One Kenya Coalition Chief Raila Odinga was allegedly denied a chance to speak.
Police officers had to improvise by securing the perimeter for the evacuation of the Azimio leader, before violence broke.
Leaders from Turkana lamented that over the years, they have supported the Former Prime Minister with all their might, but Raila never reciprocated nor appreciated their efforts.
On his part, Raila pointed fingers towards the local leaders led by Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai of instigating the chaos, after he decamped to Kenya Kwanza.
Raila said,”Mr Ruto was here yesterday and as has been his nature now and practise he made all these empty promises for what he wants to do in this region but I know there is a lot of disconnect between the rhetoric and the reality on the ground so what I want to tell the people is that they need to unite with the people of Kenya.”
“A society that forgets its past has no future.” – Winston Churchill. Our day at the Turkana Tourism and Cultural Festival, Tobong’u Lore, in Lodwar was truly enjoyable. In Kenya, we must stand united against any and all forms of political intolerance,” he added.
This came a day after President Ruto attended the festival in Turkana. He stated that The beauty and diversity of Kenyan culture is a strong platform for the development and expansion of our cultural tourism.
He added,”We are putting in place the legislative and policy frameworks that will protect and promote Kenya’s wondrous traditions and heritage. This will set the stage for the exploitation of our cultural assets, creating transformative economic opportunities for various communities across Kenya.”
