Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza Unanimously Impeached.
Meru County governor, Kawira Mwangaza has been Unanimously impeached for the second time following a motion that was tabled by One of the MCAs
On Wednesday evening, In an Assembly that consisted of 59 Members of County Assembly, all the members present voted in favor of the motion except the 10 MCAs that were absent.
Kawira was elected last year during the general elections on an independent ticket. She is being accused of misuse of public funds, gross misconduct, contempt of the county assembly and court among other charges.
On Wednesday morning, The high court of Nyeri, failed to stop the motion that was seeking to impeach the Meru County Assembly Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The governor had moved to the Appellate court to barr her impeachment but the court stated that it would rule the matter on Friday, October 27, 2023.
This comes 10 months after the same governor was impeached by the Assembly (December 2022) but an 11-member Senate Special Committee appointed to hear the case, dismissed the case citing that the charges could not be proven beyond reasonable doubt.
The fate of the governor, now lies in the hands of the senate, for the second time now.
