Court Finds Kinuthia Guilty of Ivy’s Murder; Sets date for sentencing.
High court in Eldoret, Has found One Naftal Kinuthia guilty of Murder, In The deceased Ivy Wangechi’s case.
In a proceeding that was done virtually, Justice Reuben Githinji ruled that the prosecution had proven beyond reasonable doubt the accused had planned to commit murder.
Justice Reuben outlined that Kinuthia’s actions were premeditated as he had bought and used an axe to kill Ivy Wangechi, which means Ivy had no chance to survive the incident.
The judge stated,” If he did not want to kill her, he would have used his fists and not the weapon.”
Further, The judge revealed that in a scrutiny that was done, text messages did not indicate any form of sexual relationship, as earlier stated by Kinuthia.
“Even text messages reviewed did not prove evidence of an intimate relationship and the accused did not also prove a sexual relationship with the deceased,” the judge ruled.
Defending himself, Kinuthia explained that he was bitter because Ivy was leaving him for another man. Adding that he was emotionally and financially invested in The late Ivy Wangechi.
Wangechi’s family has demanded that Kinuthia face the maximum sentence for their kin’s death, However, judge adjourned the court session to November 22, 2023, for mitigation and sentencing.
Ivy wangechi who was sixth year student at Moi university school of medicine, was hacked to death outside the institution on April 9, 2019.
