Over 17,000 passports ready for collection by october 31- Ministry of Interior.
The ministry of interior has stated that 17, 124 passports will be ready for collection from Monday, October 31.
They will be collected from the immigration regional offices from October 31 which is on a Monday to November 3, 2023.
In A breakdown, The Ministry of interior outlined that In Nairobi, 7,500 passports will be ready for collection at Nyayo House, 1,543 in Eldoret, 1, 752 in Embu, and 1,501 in Kisii.
In Nakuru, 1,002 passports will be ready whereas 1,500 will be ready for collection in Mombasa.
In Kisumu, the department stated that 2,326 passports are ready for collection next week.
A warning was issued, to whoever fails to collect their passport; The ministry stated that the passport will be disposed of and the owners penalised in accordance with the law.
This comes after the Interior cabinet secretary, Kithure Kindiki, held a meeting with senior officers from the Immigration Department at Nyayo House, Nairobi, to review the implementation of operational and policy reforms established to resolve delayed processing of passports.
Kindiki stated,”The 10-day countdown to clear the historical backlog of pending 40,000 plus passport applications is on. Deployment of day and night shifts to facilitate full capacity printing of passports, procurement of modern printing equipment, and recruitment of additional immigration officers will help us resolve the systemic challenges that have hampered service delivery.”
The CS further announced that the Government has initiated a 30-day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) for delivery of uncollected passports at the Immigration Department’s Nyayo House Headquarters and all regional offices.
Kindiki stated,”Beginning Monday 25th September 2023, owners of 87,574 passports that are now ready but remain with us uncollected are advised to forthwith pick their passport from the designated collection points in Nairobi and various regional immigration offices that will be published in various media outlets and social media platforms from tomorrow and every other Wednesday during the RRI period.”
The distribution of uncollected passports is as follows;
– Nyayo House (Nairobi)
– Embu Regional Office
– Eldoret Regional Office
– Kisumu Regional Office
– Nakuru Regional Office
– Kisii Regional Office
– Mombasa Regional Office
