Over 300 Farmers evicted from Baringo Forest.
Over 300 Farmers have been evicted from Baringo Forest following an order from the Environment cabinet Secretary, Soipan Tuya.
The order outlined that all squatters should be evicted from forest land.
In a video, The aggrieved families sat in confusion, wondering what to do next, after the sudden eviction.
One of them decried,”We will not be silenced by the government. Our agreement is that we will take to the streets and continue our fight until our grievances are acknowledged.”
Speaking on October 1, 2023, The head of state highlighted that the government will evict illegal settlers in forests, in a bid to protect the forests and waters
government’s commitment to protecting the country’s water towers, particularly the Mau Forest.
President Ruto stated,” Among the ten water towers we have in Kenya, Mau Forest is the most important. Those already in the forest should get out immediately because we are putting up a fence. And it is not a request.”
Immediately after the orders, Approximately 3,000 families were evicted from the Mau forest by the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan who highlighted that no compensation will be awarded to the illegal settlers.
The Most affected Areas include; included Ololpil, Olokurto, Sachwasan, Nkaretta, Kerampa and Enebelbel.
