In a report, National Syndemic Disease Control council, NSDCC Reveals Top 9 Counties with Highest Human Immunodeficiency Virus prevalence.
The Council pointed out that the most affected region is Nyanza, which recordes increased cases this year, Followed by the coastal region then the arid and semi-arid lands (Asals).
In Nyanza region;
Homa Bay County was ranked as the most affected county, after recording a 15.2 per cent increase this year. Kisumu County followed closely with a 14.5 per cent increase this year.
Siaya County recorded a 13.2 per cent increase whereas Migori County recorded a 9.7 per cent followed by Kisii County with a 4.4 per cent Increase.
In Coastal region;
Mombasa County was leading with a 4.6 per cent increase.
In Asals;
Samburu County recorded a 4.3 per cent increase. The Council attributed the new infections to ignorance in matters protection and the fear of getting tested.
In Western Region;
Vihiga County recorded an increase of 4.2 Per cent as compared last year.
In Rift Valley;
Uasin Gishu County recorded an increase of 3.7 per cent.
The Council also noted that most of these cases, approximately 61 per cent, are young people aged 29 years and below.
The Ministry of health encourages knowing your status before having any sexual interactions with the other party. One can visit the nearest health facility for a test or do a self test at home.
