CS Murkomen addresses flooding of road; Issues directives.
Speaking when he held a meeting with leaders from Mandera led by the County Governor Hon. Abdi Khalif at Transcom House Nairobi, Roads CS Kipchumba Murkomen discussed the state of infrastructure especially the North Eastern.
The CS outlined that he appreciates the innumerable potential locked in the ASAL region of Kenya which remain untapped due to poor infrastructure connectivity.
He took note of the flood situation in the Northern Kenya that has resulted in deaths, destruction of property, and rendered major roads impassable
CS Kipcumba stated,” As Government, we are working closely with leaders in the Northern part of Kenya to open up the region in order to promote trade and investment, facilitate inter and intra-county transportation and improve the living standards of the residents in line with the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda.”
“To mitigate the situation, I have instructed KeNHA to take the lead in conducting emergency responses in the affected Counties of Mandera, Wajir, Marsabit, Tana River and parts of Garissa to enable seamless movement of people and goods even as we wait to assess the damage levels and embark on restoration exercise once the rains subside,” he added.
The meeting was attended by PS Roads Eng. Joseph Mbugua, Mandera County Woman Representative Hon. Sheikh Ker Kassim, Mandera East MP Hon. Abdirahman Husseiweytan Mohamed, Mandera West MP Hon. Tusuf Adan Haji, Mandera South MP Hon. Haro Abdul Ebrahim, Lacey MP Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdi (Lacey), KeNHA DG Eng. Kung’u Ndung’u, KeRRA DG Philemon Kandie, among other Ministry officials.
