Uproar from Netizens over the Whipping Price hike of Documents rock the Internet.
In gazette notice, The government announced hike in access of documents such as Birth Certificates, National ID, Death Certificate, Visa, Passport, Marriage certificate among other documents.
For instance, A 50-page ordinary passport will now cost applicants Ksh.9,500 from the existing Ksh.6,000 while the application fee for a 66-page ordinary passport has shot up by Ksh.5,000 to Ksh.12,500.
Whereas, Replacing a lost passport will cost Ksh.20,000, an increase of Ksh.8,000 from the previous fee while replacing a valid mutilated passport will cost Ksh.20,000 from Ksh.10,000.
However, uproar from netizens over this hike has ignited the internet, with Kenyans calling out the government for being inconsiderate.
MP Didmus Barasa stated,”This is retrogressive to say the least, people get dishonest in presence of power and Money. These characters seem power drunk, eating taxes with a big spoon, wearing the most expensive designer shoes and vomiting remnants on Kenyans who walk bare feet! things are taking wrong trajectory,”
”I’m raising my voice! Wananchi are suffering! The Government must listen! A marriage certificate for example has cruised from 30k to 100k! Are we for real? Why oppress citizens?”he posed.
Njenga Karugia wrote,”Your child who is born abroad will pay Ksh. 1.2 million to become a permanent resident in Kenya. Ksh. 200,000 processing fees and Ksh. 1,000,000 issuance fees,”
”Absolute madness by some genius idiots serving the Government of Kenya punishing Kenya’s diaspora and our children. Yet we send billions upon billions upon billions to Kenya in remittance. Either Ruto is tired of presidency and wants to lose peacefully in 2027 or some people in Ruto’s government are trying as much as possible to have him lose in 2027. All this genius mess is by design,”he added.
