Details of the dialogue between Raila and student leaders after they called for demos.
Yesterday, Opposition leader Raila Odinga, held a discussion with University student leaders across the country.
Details of the dialogue include the high cost living, which was explained to be unbearable in relation to the new university funding model.
Azimio la Umoja leader opined that its high time the government starts to involve students, when they are making fund reviews that will in turn affect the same Kenyan students.
Raila stated,”Had a dialogue on the impact of rising living costs on education funding with university student leaders,”
“This regime needs to involve students in fund reviews and address the duale laws denying them one man one vote,” he added.
Notably, The students advocated for free education on skill empowerment. The opposition leader commended them for standing up for themselves and advocating for social change.
Raila stated,”They’re advocating for free education for skill empowerment, following global examples.Kudos to our students for agitating for social change.”
On matters demonstrations, Raila highlighted that anything that is within their reach, he will do.
He stated,”We told these people several times, you are in the hole. Don’t continue to dig. You saw how the members of parliament fought very hard against the tax bill because hiked taxes do not offer any solution. The issues that are within our powers we will do.”
Babu Owino who was among the leaders attending the dialogue, urged the students not to relent when they are being oppressed.
He stated,”Student leaders do not carry the government’s cross. Let the demonstrations be done just outside the gate of all the universities simultaneously, then you repeat the same within a month. You will get the results you need.”
On their part, The student leaders called upon Raila Odinga to join them in demonstrations, that will be held on Friday.
They stated,”We are inviting you to come and demonstrate with us on Friday.”
