CS Kindiki declares Climate change a National Security Threat.
Speaking on Monday at Garissa County, Interior Cabinet secretary, CS Kindiki declares Climate change among the top five major national security threats Kenya.
The others include terrorism; banditry and livestock rustling; trade, use and abuse of illicit alcohol, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances; as well as cultural, religious and political extremism.
He stated,”Tree planting and growing will be a national culture in the country and all National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) are directed to spearhead it in their respective jurisdictions to save our country from the ravages of climate change, including droughts and floods.”
The cabinet secretary highlighted that more than 300,000 tree seedlings will be planted in the North Eastern Region counties of Garissa, Mandera and Wajir as a strategy to deal with climate change.
On his part, President Ruto stated Plastic pollution is a global challenge affecting people’s health and biodiversity. It alters livelihoods, chokes marine life besides impacting negatively on our food production.
He highlighted that this is why we must embrace innovative technologies that encourage more reuse of plastic waste. This will help us attain a sustainable future for all in the long-run.
He stated,”Kenya is taking the necessary fiscal consolidation that will place the economy in the right footing. We have strengthened our fiscal discipline — with the budget deficit reduced to 4.4 per cent. With these efforts, we look forward to an improved and sustained economic performance that will tame vulnerabilities and uplift people’s lives.”
