El Nino Tragedy as 52 die and 56,549 others affected by Floods; According to a report from red cross, heavy rains have caused deaths in some regions of Kenya.
In Rift Valley region 15 died, with 3 others sustaining injuries, and 1,657 people being displaced.
In Nyanza, 6 lives have been lost, and 116 individuals displaced from their places of residence.
In the Western region of Kenya, 4 dead as 4 are injured, and 154 displacements have been reported.
The Eastern region is also affected with 10 fatalities, 2 injuries, 1 missing person, and 2,190 people displaced from their homes.
Notably, In North Eastern region 9 lives have been lost and 20,123 individuals displaced.
In the Coast region, 3 deaths have been reported and 174 displacements
In Central Kenya, 4 death have been reported and 1 displaced person whereas In Nairobi, one life has been lost.
Last week, The Kenya Meteorological Department forecasted that the rains are expected to continue until January 2024, which most likely increases cases of terror.
They pointed out places like Garissa, Tana River, and Kilifi counties as areas of imminent risk.
Kenya met stated,”High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius are expected over several parts of the country including the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya. A few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley will experience low average night-time (minimum) temperatures of less than 10 degrees Celsius,”
“When we compare the amount of rain from October 9 to 15, 2023, to the rain from October 16 to 22, 2023, we can see that there was more rain in the later period. The highest seven-day rainfall total (205.8mm) was recorded at the rainfall station at Gurar Police Station in Wajir County,” Kenya met added.
