CBC is not going to succeed unless the following is done- Wilson Sossion.
Speaking at citizen TV’s day break, Former KNUT secretary general, Wilson Sossion stated that the newly introduced competence based learning, won’t work unless some concepts from 8-4-4 are tapped into.
Sossion outlined that the now ended 8-4-4 system was structured in a way that, all those succeed from it, can get white collar jobs. Same doesn’t apply on Competence based learning.
He stated,” The intention of 8-4-4 was to prepare Kenyans for white-collar jobs in offices. 8-4-4 was supposed to strengthen STEM education. CBC is not going to succeed unless it sits squarely on the stratum and the foundation of 8-4-4.”
Mr. Sossion further expressed that 8-4-4 was the best education system that Kenyan students can ever experience; it has raised generations.
He stated,” I dare tell Kenyans that it is wrong to condemn 8-4-4 that it was merely exam-oriented. A very good education system will have a strong examination system. That is why the products of 8-4-4 have scored first-class and are very competitive in the world. Among all the education models that Kenya has developed, 8-4-4 was the best,”
”8-4-4 was one of the most well-thought-out revolutionary education curriculum in Africa but it was systematically sabotaged by external forces. 8-4-4 was supposed to be a skilled-based education system and to churn out self-reliant innovative and creative skilled citizens. It was interfered by Kamunge report of 1988,” he added.
Speaking on the same panel was Lugari member of parliament, Nabii Nabwera, who stated that 8-4-4 has done its service to the country of course with a lot of challenges.
He stated,”We failed to achieve the bigger objective of 8-4-4 because we refused to invest in it because the cartels in the education system in Kenya sabotaged the system. But to where we are, it has served its purpose.”
“It does not matter which system you run, if you don’t have structures for running it, if you don’t have a clear policy direction, then you are grappling in the dark. You cannot run an education system without adequate human resources,” he added.
