Uproar as Unemployed Kenyans are expected to remit sh300 toward SHIF: According to the new reforms in the social health insurance fund, any unemployed Kenyan who lives on his own or is living with people who already contribute to the Fund will still be required remit the fund.
The new regulations outlined that the unemployed youth will be treated as a household separate from the contributor.
An example, a graduate who has attained the age of 25 years and is living with his parents who contribute to the SHIF, will also be required to remit Ksh300 monthly to the government whether they are working or not.
However, Those households that will have a difficulty paying the SHIF deductions, the national and county governments will act as a contributor and pay the amount.
These households will be identified by the county ministry of health, and the list submitted to the social health Authorities.
The statement read,”The national government and county government shall remit the amounts payable within nine days from the date when the annual contribution of the beneficiaries is due.”
Notably, Kenyans who were under the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will be required to register in the new Fund within 90 days from the date it took effect.
In as much as the social health insurance fund bill was assented into law on October 19, 2023. The High Court, suspended the implementation until the petition challenging the it is heard.
