2023 KCPE examination results was not rushed- KNEC maintains after Raila Reveal.
Knec CEO David Njengere in a report presented to the National Assembly Committee on Education on Wednesday, higglighted that the processing of the 2023 KCPE exam was longer compared to last eight years.
KNEC CEO stated,”The processing of 2023 KCPE examination results took the longest number of days in the last eight-year period. Thus, the processing of the 2023 KCPE examination results was not rushed in any way and was undertaken as per the KNEC processing timelines for processing the KCPE examination.”
Njengere outlined that before the education reforms in 2016, processing of the KCPE examination results was done after the administration of both KCPE and KCSE examinations running between mid-November and completed right before christmas.
He stated,”The KCPE examination was timetabled for administration before the KCSE examination. Processing of the KCPE examination commences immediately after candidates sit the last paper.
Notably, The CEO revealed the process, KNEC follows, to fully process the exam.
He stated,”Marking of the English Composition, Kiswahili Insha, Kenyan Sign Language Composition and papers for learners with Visual and Hearing Impairment is by examiners, Then there is confirmation of the KCPE examination answers for MCQ by a panel of subject experts,“
“These are Supervisors’ reports, Centre Managers reports, Chief Examiners’ reports, monitoring officers reports and other field reports/letters. We then handle cases of candidates who experience hardship during examination – Special Needs, medical and any other genuine issue that affected a candidate,” he added.
His report came after Azimio la umoja leader, demanded that a taskforce should be put in place, to oversee the National Examination, as a way of avoiding questions to do with credibility of the examinations.
Raila stated,” We will be subjecting our children to ridicule, diminish their employment especially oversee if we allow the integrity of our exams and certification to be questionable. The education sector does not belong to the government of the day. It belongs to all Kenyans. For the sake of our children, the government should do better.”
