Another JKIA power outage: CS Murkomen faces a hard time explaining the occurrences of the JKIA black out.
Another JKIA Power Outage: Roads and Transport cabinet secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, has faced a rough time trying to explain how an international airport suffers a blackout for hours.
This comes two months after he visited JKIA during another blackout, and promised that ‘it won’t happen again’
Kipchumba explained,”A power outage was experienced in many parts of the country tonight. Changeover to the standby generators ensured power was immediately restored to most parts of JKIA. Regrettably, supply did not immediately resume at terminals 1A and 1E. In the wake of tonight’s incident, I led a team composed of PS Transport, Kenya Airports Authority Board Chairman and Managing Director among other KAA officials to assess the situation at the airport. As you may be aware, there have been problems with JKIA which we have been addressing progressively,”
“Considering the frequency of the power disruption, and taking into account the fact that JKIA is a facility of strategic national importance, we are making a formal request to the National Police Service to investigate possible acts of sabotage and coverup. In the meantime, the cleanup of the mess at JKIA continues. The KAA Board is under strict instructions to carry on with the reform agenda and the management to implement, as directed, the report of the technical committee which I recently constituted,” he added.
However, Netizens reacted;
Kabogo posed,” Should we expect a 4th power interruption at JKIA?Do you have electrical engineers who can design and install an automatic changeover switch?Do these generators have enough fuel, or are they affected by EPRA G to G.?”
Did stated,”Bwana CS, how coincidental can it be that every time blackout affects JKIA the generators there fail to start? How come JKIA generators’ automatic changeover always fails yet other people’s generators seldom do? We may not know, but it’s possible that the people responsible for causing the blackouts are also responsible for failing your generators to kick on.”
Karugia stated,”Bwana CS, just let the military, KDF, to run the energy supply department of JKIA since it is the heart of Kenya’s air transport. KDF will kill two birds with one stone: guard JKIA and guard reputation of their CiC H. E. President Ruto. Also, use every roof at JKIA for solar.”
