MoE Announces Changes in KCSE Grading System.
MoE Announces Changes in KCSE Grading System: According to the new grading system, only two compulsory subjects will be used in calculating the mean grade.
Ministry of Education stated,“In the new grading system that will be applied to the 2023 KCSE exam, the only two mandatory subjects will be Mathematics and one language, (English, Kiswahili or Kenyan Sign Language.”
“We are done with the marking. What we are currently doing is compiling the marks, verification and validation. So that by the end of the day we release credible results,” Machogu added.
Notably, KNEC will consider the five best-performed subjects by the candidate.
They highlighted that this was necessary to increase the number of students eligible for university admission, diploma programs, and TVET training at certificate and artisan levels.
Previously, KCSE exam grading system consisted of seven subjects, including English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, two Science subjects, and two additional subjects.
This comes after the Presidential Working Party on Education reforms stated that the previous 8-4-4 grading system disadvantaged certain learners whose top-performing subjects were overlooked if they did not fall within a specific cluster.
