Mixed Reactions as Burundi President calls for stoning of same sex Couples: Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye calls for public stoning of gay couples as he launched a virulent anti-gay polemic.
The president described the marriage between same-sex couples as an “abominable practice” that should not be tolerated in any society.
He stated,”Personally, I think if we see these kind of individuals in Burundi we should put them in a stadium and stone them. And it would not be a sin for those who do.”
Homosexuality in Burundi has been a criminal act ever since 2009. Those guilty are prisoned not less than two years.
Notably, The president castigated the Western Countries, for tolerating homosexuality and further highlighted that Burundians in Outside Countries who chose that ‘abominable path’ will not be allowed back to the Burundi.
Ndayishimiye stated,” Let them keep their help, let them keep it. Burundians living abroad who have “chosen the devil” and practice homosexuality should “not come back”
This comes after the pope allowed for blessing of same sex couples in churches. However, this has not been taken lightly, with a section of priest coming out to say it goes against the doctrine of the church and the bible teachings.
