Turn of Events as ECDE teachers condemn Governors for opposing management changes: The Kenya Union of Pre-Primary Education Teachers (KUNOPPET) has condemned Governors for rejecting proposed reforms in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE).
They expressed that they are in full support of support for the recommendations of the Presidential Working Party for Education Reforms (PWPER).
The chairperson stated,”We want CoG to know that we are the wearer of the shoe. We know where it pinches most. They are not aware if our sufferings. We declare our support for that report.”
“CoG is not legally a group of employers, therefore they should keep off matters education and leave it to experts. Their interests should not conflict with the public interests,” he added.
Supporting the ECDE Teachers was Kenya Union of Teachers (KNUT) who also castigated the Governors over their opposition to adopting the changes. They advised the county head to prioritise the children’s interests.
According to the Presidential Working Party taskforce, led by Prof. Raphael Munavu, ECDE functions must be moved to the national government to allow pre-primary schools to Junior Secondary to be led by one head of the institution.
However, The council of Governors rejected this reforms citing that they undermined the basic structure and framework of the Constitution.
CoG outlined that they shall continue to carry out their mandate as provided in the constitution and The ECDE functions were placed under County government since the inception of devolved governments.
