Breaking News: Accident at Daraja Moja claims lives of Students who were Bargaining Boda Fare: Nicole Nyamoita, 17, and Ivy Kerubo, 16, were awaiting admission to universities. They scored B+ and B in KCSE last year respectively
Last evening, the two young friends who were coming from the Kisii Ajiry Centre, stood to bargain for boda boda fare before leaving for Bobaracho.
The crash took place in the Daraja Moja area when a pickup collided with the boda boda they were on. The Toyota Hilux pickup, travelling from Jogoo to downtown Kisii, experienced brake failure.
Kevin Bundi, the bodaboda operator, sustained a deep cut to the head and a fracture on the left leg and was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati has mourned the death of the students saying that Daraja moja has been a notorious black spot.
He stated,” I am deeply saddened to convey my heartfelt sympathy to the families of the victims of the terrible accident that occurred yesterday at Kisii Daraja-Moja along the Kisii-Keroka highway,”
“Sadly, the Daraja-Moja stretch has been a black spot, and the upgrade of the highway is long overdue,” Arati added.
