A sad Monday: Grisly Accident at Ahero Junction claims lives of Eleven People: Eleven people are feared dead after a Super Metro bus from Kampala was involved in a head-on collision with a lorry in Ahero on the Kisumu- Nairobi Highway.
The deceased include two women, 8 men and a teenage boy. A total of 53 passengers suffered injuries as a result of the accident, Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi confirmed.
The accident occurred on Monday, January 29, morning at around 2:30 am where the bus rammed into a lorry ferrying sugar along the Ahero-Awasi road at a centre called Othoo while trying to overtake.
Kenya Red Cross who responded to the emergency reported that multiple injured individuals have been taken to Ahero Sub-county Hospital while critical cases were transferred to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Super metro has issued a statement, sending heartfelt condolences to the family of victims during this sad period.
The statement read,”As Super Metro family would like to inform the public that it’s so unfortunate that one of our buses plying the Kampala-Nairobi route was involved in an accident before Awasi along Kisumu- Nairobi Highway”.
“We would wish to convey a message of condolence to the families that lost their beloved ones and quick recovery to those who are in the hospital”, Super Metro added.
