NEWS JUST IN: CS Kindiki Recalls Police Officers After 13 Die in Drinking Spree: Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on Friday, February 9, recalled senior law enforcement and National Government Administration officers in Kirinyaga days after 13 people died while consuming expired alcohol.
The cabinet Secretary directed relevant agencies to start immediate inquiries upon which appropriate administrative action will be taken on those found culpable.
He stated, “The Government has recalled senior law enforcement and National Government Administration officers who by conduct or misconduct may have contributed to the recent loss of lives occasioned by the consumption of an illicit toxic brew in Kirinyaga County, Central Region.”
This directive comes move a day after Kirinyaga Women Representative Njeri Maina called on the Interior Cabinet Secretary to launch a crackdown on the rogue local administration officers who are abetting operations of illegal liquor dens.
Njeri stated, “I am saddened by the loss of 13 lives in Kangai, Kirinyaga County, due to consumption of poison laced-illicit alcohol. I am hereby calling on the CS Interior, Kithure Kindiki, to crack the whip on the rogue and corrupt local administration and any other culpable officer.
February 7, residents of Kirinyaga lit an inferno at a bar which had allegedly sold the expired alcohol to the deceased.
The angry residents further demanded immediate transfer of the local police and area chief accused of neglecting their duties.
