Raila Gives More Insights Into Ruto-Museveni Meeting Amidst Handshake Speculations: Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has addressed his recent meeting with President William Ruto and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda which took place on Monday, February 26.
Speaking during the Homa Bay investment conference on Wednesday, Raila revealed that he had planned to meet Museveni in advance stating that campaigns for the African Union Commission chairperson post topped the agenda.
Raila allayed any fears that Ruto would be trapping him with the support to get the AU job, adding that the opposition would not be boxed into any plan.
He stated,” Let me respond to some issues being raised. I am not going anywhere, I am around. I have been running around trying to get support from different heads of state. I went to the President of Uganda after I had talked to him to go and ask for his support. We met there with Mr Ruto who had also gone there to talk about issues they are having with oil, the G to G,”
“After we talked about my candidature, they talked about the issue of oil among themselves. I asked for their support and both of them agreed they would support me. President Museveni said he would be the one to propose me as the chair of AUC and I said thank you. I am not going away. Addis Ababa is only 2 hours away from Nairobi. I am available, whenever I am called I will answer. I am ready to work with you people,” he added.
Raila made the remarks after reports suggested that the ODM boss was the one who orchestrated the Monday meeting.
