Concerns raised on Kenyan police Deployment After Prime Minister’s Flight Set to Arrive in Haiti Diverts Mid-Air: Haiti Prime Minister Ariel Henry was forced to land in Puerto Rico on Tuesday, March 5, following speculations over his whereabouts after he Flew out of Kenya.
According to sources, United States federal agents from the Customs and Border Protection had assumed control of the situation as the Haitian leader seeks to return to his conflict-riddled country.
Notably, the Associated Press reported that Henry discreetly arrived on a chartered flight in New Jersey from Kenya after signing a deal with President William Ruto’s administration to deploy 1,000 Kenyan officers in a peacekeeping mission to the country.
The Prime Minister was scheduled to head towards the Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, but the flight changed routes midair and diverted to Puerto Rico.
It is, however, unclear how long Prime Minister Henry will stay in Puerto Rico and whether he will return to his country.
This comes after Jimmy Cherizier led a federation of gangs and seized control of the country’s main airport, as well as various government agencies, shortly after Henry arrived in Kenya.
According to Cherizier, the goal is to destabilise the system and overthrow Henry’s rule. Furthermore, the gang leader warned the Prime Minister against returning to the country.
Some netizens have raised concerns on the safety of the 1000 to be deployed.
Miguna stated,” If the Haitian Prime Minister cannot even return safely to Haiti after his visit to Kenya, it would be an act of criminal recklessness for the Government of Kenya to send 1000 Kenyan Policemen to Haiti to be slaughtered.”
Another netizen wrote,” There’s definitely a catch ….imagine a whole US government saying they’ve backed down and they expect Kenya to hasten the process of taking soldiers there.”
