County Governments Order Closure of all Bars as CS Kindiki Issues A New Directive: Vihiga County government in collaboration with the national government has ordered the closure of all bars and liquor shops operating within the county with immediate effect in a bid to allow for fresh vetting in compliance with the law on matters illicit brew.
This was announced by Vihiga County Commissioner, Felix Watakila, and Vihiga governor Dr Wilbur Otichillo after chairing a security meeting at Chango in Vihiga Sub-County, Vihiga County.
They stated that the closure has been necessitated by the ongoing crackdown on illicit brews, second-generation alcohol and run-away insecurity in the county,
The closure will pave way for fresh vetting in compliance with the law. Those found operating near schools, hospitals and churches will not be approved to resume operations.
The Governor disclosed that some of his officers had unlawfully allowed some bars to operate illegally.
This comes moments after CS Kindiki on Tuesday highlighted that The measures announced by the Government last week on eradication of illicit liquor and narcotic drugs are irreversible and non-negotiable.
CS Kindiki stated,” The 25-point policy and operational guidelines are not a declaration of war with businesses, enterprise, revenue collection or science but meant to conclusively deal with the menace of poisonous and toxic substances that are destroying lives and hurting the future of our Country,”
“Unlike previous operations that used economic, social, political and commercial interests as a rationale to combat the manufacture, sale, consumption and abuse of illicit alcohol, narcotic drugs and other psychotropic substances, the challenge at hand is an existential National Security threat, similar to terrorism, and the Government will deploy all the available resources and measures to exterminate it,” he added.
