Youths Stone Police Inspector to Death During Illicit Alcohol Crackdown in Siaya: A police inspector was on Wednesday stoned to death by a group of rowdy residents in Rarieda, Siaya County.
The officer who was in the company of his colleagues was overseeing an operation to tame down the sale of illicit liquor as directed by Interior cabinet secretary, Kithure Kindiki.
At the scene, authorities arrested suspect who was allegedly participating in the illegal trade in Ndori Village. During the arrest, the officers recovered several sachets of ethanol
Immediately after being arrested, the suspect began resisting, inviting the attention of a rowdy group of youth who began attacking the officers.
The youths then began throwing stones at the officers mainly targeting the police inspector leading the crackdown.
The police inspector fired into the air five times in an attempt to disperse the angry youths, but his efforts were in vain as the crowd persisted eventually overpowering the officers.
After outwitting the officers, the crowd went ahead to stone the inspector to death, leaving his colleagues with critical injuries.
Meanwhile, the Ceska pistol used by the deceased in the failed mission is yet to be recovered.
Police have since launched a probe into the matter in a bid to bring to book the perpetrators and recover the stolen gun.
