Haiti Gang Leader Killed in Shootout: Haiti gang leader Makandal was on Wednesday shot dead together his accomplices during a fierce shootout with police in Pétion-Ville, a suburb area on the southeastern side of the Caribbean nation.
Reportedly, Haiti Police revealed that the gang leader was allegedly killed after city residents joined forces in attacking the gang leader and members.
As soon as the gang leader and his accomplices were shot dead, their bodies were dragged along the city streets for several hours.
According to reports, a section of the Haiti residents had formed a vigilante group which was aimed at dealing with the surge of criminals within Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital.
Reports further indicated that law officers drawn from the Haiti security forces also formed part of the vigilante groups to aid in dealing with the anarchy ignited by the gangs.
Local dailies on Wednesday, March 20 confirmed about 15 people had been killed in attacks around Petion-Ville.
This is after another Haiti gang leader “Barbeque” threatened he would go after hotel owners hiding old-guard politicians.
This comes even as Kenya continues to prepare for the deployment of its police to Haiti
