Several Governors Summoned After Auditor General Exposes Fund Misappropriation: According to the 2022-2023 audit report from the office headed by Nancy Gathungu, governors have been misusing taxpayer funds by engaging in procurement for non-existent projects and violating procurement laws.

1. Machakos County Governor
Hon. Wavinya Ndeti is to answer a case concerning the construction of a 12-storey building valued at Ksh399 million
The Auditor General estimated the project’s cost at Ksh230 million, indicating a questionable loss of Ksh169 million allocated to the project.
Another case is the Ksh100 million in payment to loans and SACCOs and an additional Ksh178 million for payment of pensions.
2. Meru County Governor
Hon. Kawira Mwangaza is said to have made payments amounting to Ksh276 million for unaccounted pending bills and irregularly disbursed allowances to doctors, Amounting to Ksh126 million.
3. Baringo County Governor
Governor Benjamin Cheboi is accused Cheboi procuring medical supplies worth Ksh218 million without any corresponding report.
He also purchased motor vehicles amounting to Ksh120 million and unauthorized expenditure of Ksh21 million on electricity.
Additionally, Cheboi sanctioned the procurement of services from a law firm, which appears irregular according to the Auditor General’s investigation.
4. Nyandarua County Governor
Moses Ndirangu constructed a perimeter wall valued at Ksh23 million, delayed projects amounting to Ksh96 million, and questionable projects totalling Ksh48 million.
The listed governors are to appear before the Senate Oversight Committee.
