Kenyan Police Deployment To Haiti Takes A Turn After Barbeque’s Warning: The United Nations has announced that Haiti will require up to 5,000 police officers to comprehensively combat and overpower the deadly gangs that are terrorrizing the carribean country.
In a report presented by UN rights expert William O’Neill, the mission would need between 4,000 and 5,000 police officers if at all they want the mission to be deemed successful.
William decried that the current situation is not only worsening, but also headed to a place that has never been seen before. Hence it will require five Times the initial number to atleast combat the gang.
He also outlined impunity and poor governance, along with escalating gang violence, have severely undermined the rule of law, bringing institutions in Haiti dangerously close to collapse.
O’Neill’s report, detailing the situation in Haiti over the past five months, revealed that gangs continue to recruit and exploit young boys and girls.
The report also exposed the sad reality of many children losing their lives, with some being killed for attempting to escape for their lives.
