CS Kindiki stern Directive To Police Officers in Ongoing Doctors’ Strike: Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki has directed the law enforcement to protect the public from protesting doctors.
The cabinet secretary cited that some of the striking doctors were intimidating and threatening their fellow Healthcare providers who had resorted to go back to work.
He therefore issued a stern warning saying any protest of any kind, is prohibited because it is against court orders
He stated,”Gatherings, protests or whatever other action(s) in pursuit of grievances outside the law and in breach of court directives constitutional order undermines the Country and are, therefore, not permissible,”
Kindiki further noted that the action by the doctors to demonstrate contravened the directive issued by the Labour Relations court.
“Court ordered the parties in the ongoing industrial dispute in the health sector to engage in conciliation and negotiation proceedings within 14 days and thereafter file in court a memorandum of understanding,” he added.
This comes a day after president Ruto stated that the government is not in a position to meet doctors’ grievances.
He stated,”I know we have a situation in Kenya with our doctors and interns. I want to implore them that it is important for us as a nation that we must live within our means.”
On their part, doctors have stood their ground saying they will not go back to work until their demands are met.
KMPDU Sec Gen stated,” As Doctors, we refuse to be scapegoats for wage bill reduction. Our salaries, vital like any Kenyan’s, are based on fair agreements,”
“Despite government pressure, doctors’ salaries, anchored on CBA, are non-negotiable. We won’t compromise on fair compensation for our hard work. It’s unjust to target us for wage bill control while state officers enjoy hefty paychecks. We stand united against exploitation,” he added.
