Sakaja Halts All Pending Building Development Approvals With Immediate Effect.
Sakaja Halts All Pending Building Development Approvals With Immediate Effect: Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Wednesday, April 24, announced an immediate stop to all pending building development approvals.
The county governor cited that this is because of the continued heavy downpour in Nairobi County which has put major infrastructure at risk of collapse.
He stated,”We have halted all pending building development approvals until we are able to review those that are continuing across the city.”
Notably, The governor ordered a Ban to all evacations within Nairobi County, with immediate effect.
Sakaja stated,”All excavations of buildings especially those that have gone close to their neighbours have been stopped forthwith because of structural integrity of the building cannot be assured at this time.”
This comes after pressure and calls from activists to stop approvals of buildings in the city which do not follow the urban planning codes.
However, Sakaja had earlier announced that the county would continue giving out permits to various contractors aimed to construct up to 75-storey buildings.
