Rescue Operations Ongoing as Floods Trap People in Houses at Kitengela: Residents from Kitengela have raised alarm with some trapped in their houses after floods that are suspected to have been caused by a seasonal river broke its banks.
One user by the name Wangari Gikonyo took to her X account, to appeal for help, saying that her and the kids are currently trapped in their house.
She stated,”WE ARE DYING.
ANYONE IN KITENGELA PLEASE HELP.
FLOODS. Nikona watoto kwa nyumba nisaidieni. Nataka tu kutoka na watoi.
Izi vitu ata sitaki. Still waiting to be rescued.”
The Kenya Red Cross was Wednesday morning forced to conduct emergency evacuation of families in certain areas of Kitengela, Kajiado county after heavy rains pounded the region.
As early as 4 am, the Kenya Red Cross (KRC) team had already hit the ground to move the family to safety.
Kenya Red cross stated, “We are currently on the ground assisting families to move to safety in Kitengela, Kajiado County, following heavy rainfall,”
KRC teams were actively involved in helping households along Deliverance Road, Balozi Road, Baraka Road, Blessed Court, New Valley, Changombe, and the KAG area.
KRC said they have so far rescued six people who were in critical situations and they are on course to get others to safety.
The Floods have wrecked havoc all over the country, with roads completely impassable and houses being swept away.
