Gov’t Corners Former Governors Oparanya, Sonko and 3 Others, Drags Them To Court: On Sunday, May 12, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) announced that former Governors, Moses Lenolkulal Kesaine (Samburu), Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and Mike Mbuvi Sonko (Nairobi) are among notable graft suspects whose cases are coming up in court this week.
Waititu alongside 13 others are set to appear in court and be Charged with conflict of Interest and abuse of office. The 14 will also answer charges of dealing with suspect property
Former Governor Waititu is accused of receiving Ksh25 million during his time as governor in regards to payments made to a contractor for a tender awarded by the County Government of Kiambu.
On his part, Lenolkulal, the former county chief, alongside 13 others is being accused of conspiracy to commit corruption and abuse of office
The Report Read,”Allegations relate to the unlawful payment of Ksh84.8 million for fuel supplied to the County Government of Samburu by an enterprise that belonged to Kesaine,
Further, Former Governor Sonko will also has been accused together with three others of conflict of interest and embezzlement of Funds.
“Allegations relate to embezzlement of public funds in the sum of Ksh24.1 million from Nairobi City County Government,” his charge sheet reads.
Additional governors who have cases to answer include Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) and Mwangi wa Iria (Murang’a).
