SRC’s New Rule on Retirement Age For Teachers and Civil Servants
SRC’s New Rule on Retirement: The Salaries and Remuneration commission has come out to opposed the Recently proposed retirement age( 55 years) for Teachers and other civil servants.
At the moment, Teachers and other Civil Servants must retire at age sixty, whereas people with disabilities must retire at age sixty-five.
However, Parliament has been presented with a proposal, that posits lowering of the mandatory retirement age to 55 years old.
According to The Proponents, lowering the retirement age will be a better way give young people a chance to also tap into their careers
However, Mengich has declared has stance saying that this proposal would be a burden to taxpayers since they will shoulder a larger share of the pension cost since the number of pension recipients would increase.
Mengich also stated that since these workers have vast expertise that benefits the Kenyan labor, it will not be reasonable to let them go at a very young age.
The Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill of 2023, in contrast, Seeks to lower the retirement age to 55 years of age that had been changed to 60 years old in the year 2009.
