Popular Political Leader Attacked by Goons At Mathira, Nyeri County
Popular Political Leader Attacked by Goons At Mathira: Chaos erupted around Magutu Ward, Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County in the wee hours of Saturday morning as the home of Giakaibei assistant chief, Willy Kihu, became the target of attack by a gang of about 10 armed men.
Reports indicate that the assailants, armed with a power saw and petrol, forcibly entered Assistant Chief Kihu’s residence with the sinister intention of setting ablaze his timber-made house.
The motive behind the attack points towards an ongoing feud between the assistant chief and a local businessman who runs a bar in Giakaibei.
According to initial investigations, the businessman, whose establishment faced closure under the assistant chief’s directive in the crackdown against illicit liquor, is suspected of orchestrating the assault as a retaliation measure.
Chiefs and assistant chiefs from across Nyeri County are scheduled to convene this morning to address the alarming incident.
They are expected to issue a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to the government’s directive to clamp down on the production and sale of illegal alcohol.
