NCIC Demands Renaming of Several Counties With Ethnic Names[ LIST]
NCIC Demands Renaming of Several Counties With Ethnic Names: The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairman has proposed the renaming of all counties with names similar to the ethnic communities that reside there.
This means counties of Kisii, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Nandi, Turkana, Embu, Samburu, Taita Taveta, West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet counties will have to undergo renaming for having Ethnic Names.
This comes years after the former Chairman, proposed the same issues, underscoring that there is no county that can be exclusive to any ethnic community.
He stated,” We are telling the Samburus, the Nandis, and even the Meru, look for a new name. The people from Taita Taveta will also have to look for a new name, because we conducted an ethnic audit and established that these counties have refused to comply with the legal provisions requiring 70 percent should those from the dominant community.”
