KRA Issues official Statement on Scuffle with Governor Nassir and Links To Muguka Ban.
KRA Issues official Statement: Chaos was witnessed today at Rahma Studios after Kenya Revenue Authority officials stormed the offices with claims of Tax Compliance.
However, Nassir who arrived at the studios accused the officials of not following the legal channels, trying to enforce the Law.
He further linked the ‘harassment’ the ongoing muguka ban debate, that he has enforced despite the President Declaring the ban Null and Void.
Nassir Lamented,” You came here, and everyone I have talked to is saying that they are not aware of the arrears, I think you have been sent to harass us. “If you have been sent here to harass us, we will take this matter even further, if this has been occasioned by the ban on Muguka, you will not intimidate us.”
The Taxman has however, clarified that today’s events at Rahma Broadcasting corporation, is part of KRA’s enforcement routine.
KRA stated,” KRA’s attention has been drawn to media reports on enforcement actions taken regarding the tax compliance of Rahma Broadcasting Limited. KRA confirms that all due diligence procedures were followed, including the issuance of demand notices to the company. Following a comprehensive review, it was determined that Rahma Broadcasting Limited was non-compliant in filing and paying various tax obligations.
“Engagements with the management of Rahma Broadcasting Limited have been ongoing since taxes became due and payable. Commitments were reached, however the taxpayer did not honour them. Today’s activity at Rahma Broadcasting Limited is therefore part of normal KRA’s Enforcement operation.
They added: The Authority remains committed to facilitating taxpayers and ensuring compliance with tax laws. KRA appreciates the cooperation of all taxpayers in fulfilling their tax obligations.
