Malawi Vice President Dr. Saulos has been confirmed dead in a plane crash.
Malawi Vice President Dr. Saulos has been confirmed dead in a plane crash: Chilima who was 51 years was aboard a military aircraft with nine others that left Lilongwe, the capital, at 09:17 a.m. (0717 GMT).
The aircraft failed to make its scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02.
All efforts by aviation authorities to make contact with the Aircraft since it went off the radar and failed.
As such, the Commander of the Malawi Defense Force, General Valentino Phiri informed His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera of the incident.
The President of Malawi canceled his scheduled departure for the Bahamas and ordered all regional and national agencies to conduct an immediate search and rescue operation to locate the whereabouts of the aircraft.
Confirming the tragic death, Colleen Samba, the Secretary to the Malawi President said that the plane was located at Chikangawa forest by the search team that was tasked to locate the Vice President.
“The aircraft, which was carrying the Vice President, the Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, and nine others, was found this morning in the Chikangawa forest. Unfortunately, all on board have perished in the crash.”
