More than 50 Kiambu National Polytechnic Students Arrested: Reports indicate that Police have detained several students from the institution following protests that happened on Monday.
In a statement, the chief principal Sammy Waititu said the Kiambu National Polytechnic has been forced to close indefinitely following student’s unrest and would communicate on the date for resumption.
He stated, “Following the students’ unrest, the polytechnic has been closed indefinitely. All students in the hostels are expected to vacate the institute by 4 pm today,”
Following the unrest, traffic disruption was earlier reported on Kiambu Road.
The students were reportedly protesting against the proposed Finance Bill 2024. This comes after president Ruto lauded the youth highlighting that he is ready to engage with them.
He stated,”Our young people have stepped forward to engage in the affairs of their country. They have done a democratic duty to stand and be recognized and I want to tell you that we are going to have a conversation with you so that we can identify your issues and we can work together as a nation and streamline your issues.”
