LIST of Kenyan Athletes Who Have Changed Nations and Running For Other Countries: The following athletes shifted allegiance and are currently running for other countries.
1. Lonah Chemtai – Israel- 10,000m
Born in West-Pokot County, the 10,000m champion is married to Dan Salpeter, a former Israeli middle-distance and mountain runner who became her running coach. She was granted her Israel Citizenship by virtue of being married to Salpeter.
2. Winfred Yavi – Bahrain -3,000m steeplechase
Winfred Mutile Yavi switched her allegiance to Bahrain at the young age of 15, in search of better opportunities in athletics.
3. Norah Jeruto -Kazakhstan-3,000m steeplechase
Norah Jeruto Tanui is a Kazakhstani (formerly Kenyan) long-distance runner. She won the gold medal in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2022 World Championships.
4. Leonard Korir -USA-10,000m, 5,000m
Korir is a SSG (Staff Sergeant) in the United States Army who was born in Iten, Uasin Gishu. He’s also one of the select soldiers as part of the World Class Athlete Program (WCAP).
5. Stephen Cherono – Qatar -3000m steeplechase
The Kenyan born athlete switched allegiance to Qatar In 2003 and changed his name. Now retired and back in Kenya.
6. Anne Wafula – UK -Paralympian
Wafula won the UK-Kenyan Sports Personality of the Year Award in 2004 and has also won the Women for Africa Recognition Award.
