EACC Addresses Viral Story of Contractor Receiving Double Payments For Renovating Gachagua’s Karen Residence
This was revealed in the quarterly report released by EACC that covered reports made to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) during the period between April 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024.
“Investigations also established that the renovations were justified and that there were no double payments made to the contractors as alleged. The renovations were carried out and no public funds were lost,” the report read in part.
Following investigations, EACC compiled a report and forwarded to the DPP with recommendation to close the file on June 3, 2024. The DPP is yet to respond.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is the second to occupy the residence after President Ruto. He However, spent six months at his private residence before occupying the official residence, citing that the house was in bad condition.
“The official residence of the Deputy President was in bad shape when I became Deputy President. The rooftop was leaking, the borehole pump was broken down, and the house was totally in bad shape,” Gachagua said.
