Several Traffic Officers Arrested, EACC Exposes Their Names.
Several Traffic Officers Arrested: EACC arrested four (4) traffic police officers caught extorting money from motorists in the guise of traffic law enforcement. They include:
1. No. 77429 Cpl Rachael Aiyabei;
2. No. 92235 PC John Oluoch;
3. No. 73151 Cpl Cynthia Kemoi; and
4. No. 79604 PC Philip Sitienei.
Cpl Aiyabei and PC Oluoch were apprehended along Sotik-Kericho road, while Cpl Kemoi and PC Sitienei were arrested along Kericho-Nakuru Road near Kaisugu Tea Factory.
Prior to the arrests on Tuesday, EACC had observed the officers for several days collecting bribes without doing anything at all towards traffic law enforcement.
The suspects were escorted to EACC South Rift Regional Offices in Nakuru, where they were processed and later released on bail pending the finalization of the probe.
The Commission reminds members of the public that while the majority view bribery as petty corruption, its implications are gross as it compromises road safety to the extent of claiming lives.
Non-compliance with the established road safety regulations on account of payment of bribes is a notable cause of the road accidents witnessed on Kenyan roads.
All forms of corruption may be reported to EACC through Toll-Free Line 1551 or email address.
