Security Protocols Heightened At Karen Hospital, Only President Can Inform The Public of DP’s Health
Moments ago, The senate Speaker Amason Kingi put the question regarding the suspension of the impeachment hearing for Deputy President Gachagua until Saturday, October 19, 2024.
Kingi stated,”Today at midnight, marks the end of the hearing of the Senate impeachment matter. As this process is time-bound by the Constitution to be concluded in not more than 10 days pursuant to Article 145 as read with Article 150, and noting that the period provided for ends on Saturday, October 19, 2024, the only window open to the Senate if so obliged the request for adjournment sought by the Counsel for the Deputy President would be to gazette Saturday, October 19, 2024 as a further and final day for hearing of this matter,”
The “Nays” had it and the motion defeated, allowing the impeachment hearing for Deputy President Gachagua to proceed as agreed this afternoon
Closing statements by the parties therefore will be presented as the Senate continues with the proceedings.
However Lead Counsel Paul Muite stated that Gachagua’s legal team cannot continue without his instructions and asked to withdraw from the Senate.
He stated,”Arising from the decision of the Senate, we as the legal team representing the Deputy President are not able to continue appearing without instructions. We therefore take our leave,”
The deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru highlighted that the health of the Deputy President are matters of the state and only the president can inform the public and not his lawyers.
At the time of publishing this article, Elevated security protocols were in effect at Karen Hospital where Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is undergoing treatment after an acute illness.
