Drama As EACC Arrests County CEC For Demanding Ksh.100K bribes For Land Matters
Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning and Housing Janet Kosgei for allegedly extorting the public to offer services.
Kosgei arrested after Anti- corruption officers from North Rift Regional Office in Eldoret raided her office following multiple corruption complaints from the public.
Confirming the incident was EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, who stated that the CEC had been demanding bribes ranging from Ksh.100,000 to Ksh.300,000 from each person seeking services on land matters required in the county government.
Two county enforcement officers were also nabbed for attempting to obstruct the apprehension of the CECM by EACC detectives.
According to the commission, a scuffle ensued after Sergeants Geoffrey Lang’at and Jeremiah Kipkemoi attempted to attack the EACC detectives but were effectively neutralized and detained for the offense of obstruction.
