Why Gov’t is Yet to Reconstitute New IEBC Amid Pressure from Kenyans
On Saturday, Kenyans launched an odd social media campaign to persuade the government to speed up the process of constituting a new electoral agency.
Under the hashtag #appointiebcnow, hundreds of Kenyans voiced their concern about what they termed a deliberate attempt by the Kenya Kwanza Government to establish a functioning IEBC.
However, According to Dennis Itumbi, In March 2023, President William Ruto demonstrated his readiness to constitute the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Itumbi further explained that the situation changed with the NADCO (National Dialogue Committee) process.
This disagreement led to a court case. Currently, there is a court order in place preventing any further action on this matter until it is resolved.
