EPRA Launches Nationwide Crackdown After Latest Directive
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced its plans to start inspecting energy generation facilities in the country after it was given authority by the International Tracking Standard Foundation (I-TRACK Foundation).
In a statement released on Monday, December 16, 2024, EPRA announced the I-TRACK Foundation had handed the authority a new role as the official local issuer of the International Renewable Energy Certificates I-REC(E).
This means EPRA now has the mandate of inspecting energy generation facilities across Kenya to verify electricity generated is from renewable sources.
According to EPRA Director-General Daniel Kiptoo, the authority’s new role was a huge milestone, since it aligned with EPRA’s mandate of full realisation of renewable and sustainable energy by 2030.
